Do online petitions actually change anything, or just make us feel like they do?
Genuinely asking not to be cynical, but because I think it's worth being honest about. A petition with a thousand signatures feels like progress, but a signature is a pretty low-cost action. Has anyone here actually seen a petition (on this site or elsewhere) lead to a real decision — a policy reversed, a vote changed, something concrete? What made the difference between the ones that worked and the ones that just sat there?
